PHILIPPIANS
4:13

- “I
can do all things in Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians
4:13)

At the start
of the year, I was deciding on a theme for the Children’s
Ministry, and this Bible passage persistently came to my mind.
I was thinking of the appropriate Scripture equivalent of my
very own personal motto “Seize the day (carpe diem!).”
My college roommates and I have made this motto our very own
battle cry after watching the movie “Dead Poet’s Society.” It
made us accomplish so much and somehow find the courage to do
even the most challenging of tasks.
-
-
Introducing
the concept of a motto to the
G
Kids was just, I guess, profound. Of course, it doesn’t mean
anything until they experience it. So there I was at the
start of the year, handling a bunch of kids equipped with only
“I can do all things…” and a faith that can move
mountains. I genuinely believe t
hat
the
G
Kids had a lot of potential and they just
needed the right push and the right motto.
-
-
Seven months
afterwards, I have witnessed how even the most bashful among
the
G
Kids could perform in front of an audience in our recently
concluded “Night of Praise and Worship through Music and
Dance.” More than just giving their parents and guests an
enjoyable night to remember, the
G
Kids (or at least most of them) realized they could actually
dance, or sing, or play an instrument. It was such a
revelation! Now, they’re getting ready for their next
performance.
-
-
Some
children sought me out after the performance thanking me for
encouraging them to dance that night. That gesture from the
children surely softened my heart, but I had to offer it to my
Lord, the real producer of the show. I remember just days
before the performance, I was having doubts whether we can
come up with enough numbers to hold a show. I was even
tempted to just cancel the whole thing. Around that time I
was almost about to give up, I sat down in front of my small
altar and sincerely asked the Lord’s help. I remembered just
sitting down there and suddenly a rush of fresh new ideas
started entering my mind to the point I had one sleepless
night. Talk about answered prayers!!! It was so detailed I
can almost say September 19 was already a
deja vu!!!
-
-
When you
have a task to perform for the Lord, He equips you. During my
prayer time, I got the inspiration to worship the Lord in a
dance. He made me remember some old dancing skills, which I
used to interpret “Shout To The Lord.” I experienced a unique
feeling of spiritual high while doing it. I am past performing
to please other people. This time, I only offered it to Him,
my Lord and my Savior.
-
-
I would have
to admit that the
G
Kids may not have totally grasped the concept of performing
entirely for the Lord at this point, but they have to start
somewhere. After all, it takes more than one performance
night to internalize “I can do all things…” Faced with a
challenging task, believing you can accomplish it with His
help gives you inspiration even beyond human capacity. I
recommend this Scripture passage for parents to share with
their children. Instead of some fancy posters and catchy ads
they see all around them, why not give them something that
could truly inspire them to reach new heights with their
faith.
-
-
As for the
G
Kids, only the Lord knows how much more they can accomplish.
Everyone is still work in progress, and I’m excited to see
just how far “I can do all things in Him who strengthens
me” can take them.
