THE
GREATEST TREASURE
- By Beth

Being brought up in a family where both ends could hardly
meet, my parents had to work hard just to earn a living for a
family of 11. My Mom did not have any prestigious diplomas to
boast about for she had not even finished her elementary
years. Hence, you could imagine how difficult it was for her
to teach us in our school lessons. Nonetheless, both my
parents believed in the value of good education, striving hard
to send us to the best school in our area.
-
- As a
little girl, I learned the usual prayers from school. I do
not remember my Mom teaching us these prayers, as she herself
did not know them. But one thing that I could remember was
her routine before retiring to bed. In spite of a very tiring
day, every night, I could vividly recall her knelt down in
prayer with tears flowing down her cheeks. Her voice
reverberates as she repeatedly tells us that she had to always
turn to Jesus for comfort, surrendering to Him everyday of her
life especially when she is burdened with so many trials. She
had no one to confide her deepest sorrows as she had only us.
I could not imagine how my parents were able to raise the
funds necessary for us to finish our schooling. But they were
able to. The strength Mom showed gave us the courage to study
hard and help in any way we could.

Mom’s
perseverance and consistent prayers to our Lord were the
guiding light in her life leading the family to where it is
right now. Little did she know that her ways gave us the best
education that one could possibly have. Now that I have a
family of my own, I could easily draw from the knowledge I
gained in calling upon the Lord in every aspect of my family
life. Indeed, trusting and relying upon the Lord Jesus
Christ, you shall not be in want. My Mom may not have
lavished us with many material things nor assured us of an
abundant inheritance, but we were richly blessed as she handed
down to us the greatest treasure, the greatest wealth she has,
which is the LOVE FOR JESUS.
-
- As
the apostle Paul said, “But once I found Christ, all those
things that I might have considered profit, I reckoned as
loss. Still more, everything seems to me as nothing compared
with the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord” (Philippians
3:7-8).
