THE MAKING
- By Joji

Last September 7, 2003, the Community witnessed once again the
mighty works of the Holy Spirit as the members gathered and
prayed over 23 participants of the Empowered Christian Living
Seminar (ECLS) held at the Don Bosco Seminary in North
Jakarta. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit was the third of a
four-session seminar conducted especially for those residing
in North Jakarta or are attending the Masses at the Sto.
Yohanes Sunter Church.
-
-
My husband
Larry and I have a particular soft spot for the newly
concluded ECLS, and for an apparent reason. This ECLS was
initiated by our Care Group (CG), the first one to be
conducted by Genesis at the CG level.

-
-
Somehow, it
all started in one of our CG meetings. We were deliberating on
how we can address the seemingly spiritual dryness that most
of our members were experiencing that time. It was then that
Bro. Fred Nartates pointed out that there is so much we can do
to bring others to the Lord. Bro. Fred, aware that there are
a number of those attending the Sunday Masses at the Sto.
Yohanes Sunter Church who are interested in joining a
community, thought it is high time for Genesis to reach out
towards the north.
-
-
I believe
that long before we were given this task, God has already been
working in each one of us. He was molding us through His Word
and the various teachings we received; nurturing our
capabilities through the many gifts and talents bestowed upon
us; building up our confidence through the encouragement and
kind appreciation of our efforts by the Community. When the
challenge to conduct this seminar was put
-
-
forward,
our CG was at first hesitant and apprehensive, but eventually
learned to put our trust in Him and the Community to guide us
and give us the resources we need to make this seminar happen.
-
-
Inevitably, we experienced ‘hitches’ in the course of
organizing this seminar. But little did I know that what
I thought to be our trying moment would become [specifically
from my own perspective] the turning point towards the success
of the ECLS. When our group accepted to undertake this task,
we made certain commitments to ensure that the ECLS will run
smoothly. However, there were circumstances at times that
distracted us and seemed to veer us away from our set goals.
Simply put, we have had our discouraging moments.
-
-
It was
during one of these moments that the Lord spoke in my heart
and gave us this assurance – When you feel like you have
done your best and yet your sail refuses to move, rest your
load upon Me, and let Me be the wind to your sail. That
was quite a compelling and timely message, and more so, it
humbled me. I realized that all of us are but instruments in
the fulfillment of God’s plan. God is the ultimate planner,
the finest organizer, His Spirit the strongest wind ever
behind every sail. If only we let Him be. And so, when I
moved back and let God takeover, everything else simply fell
into perfect harmony.
-
-
Indeed, the
ECLS had been a draining yet very rewarding experience. As
Bro. Pete often said, God must be delighted in all of us. But
we acknowledge that our work is not yet finished, that we are
facing an even higher mandate – to bring the participants into
a community where they can further grow in their relationship
with God. Can we do it? With God’s grace and the support and
prayers of the whole Community, how can we fail?
-
-
From the
bottom of our hearts, Larry and I thank you all for your
prayers, participation and support in the ECLS.

TELL US
LIKE IT IS!
- Has
something wonderful and unique happened in your life lately? Did
God answer your prayer in a very unexpected way? Did you, like
Isaiah, meet God’s whisper?
- Have
you felt His powerful hand working in your life recently?
-
Everyday, people are experiencing God’s mighty Word in their
lives and it is a pity that very few know about it. Do you have
a story to tell? Some Good News to share?
- E-mail
us (genesis@catholic.org)
or fax us (021-6627384), and tell us about it. That’s right! You
don’t have to be a great writer to do this. We can help you
write it – just tell us like it is!
- Don’t
forget to write the subject: “Let Me Tell You A Story”
