Tintin Magbitang  The MARY month of October - By Tintin Magbitang

For most of us Catholics, the month of October is always a renewal of our devotion to our Blessed Mother and the Rosary.  Although the Community had its Rosary Worship towards month-end, nevertheless, it was the highlight of the month.  Prior to the Rosary Worship, the children, all in white, led the Rosary Procession, offering flowers and singing traditional Marian songs to our Blessed Mother. After introducing the recently added Luminous Mysteries (Mysteries of Light), our very inspired head servant, Bro. Pete Lapid, led us to the Rosary Worship. This October 2002 until October 2003 has been declared by the Pope as the Year of the Rosary. We sure did have a very inspiring start to the Rosary Year.

We had our dose of powerful talks this month starting with the challenging talk on “Discipleship” by Bro. Wimpie Santoso, from our sister community KKKA (Komunitas Keluarga Kudus Allah or Holy Family of God Community). Bro. Wimpie’s talk focused on John 6:60-70 when Jesus challenged the faith of the rowd and only a chosen few have remained as His true disciples. He advised us to reflect, that as Christians are we part of the crowd or the disciples. For the essence of discipleship is service and if we are to be truly disciples, we should earnestly ask for the Spirit to guide us to serve.  This teaching is very appropriate reminding us of our calling to “discipleship”.

Community members are truly led to this vocation. In fact, the Holy Spirit has on several occasions this month, inspired us to reach out.  The Holy Spirit has chosen as speakers Sis. Liza Caleda, Sis. Beth Manibog, Sis. Nenette Dizon and myself, to be His instruments in revealing Himself in the Life in the Spirit Seminar for the Sta. Monica Intercessory Prayer Group.  Truly this could only be a manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit.

Last October 19 we were once again graced by the Spirit with a practical but relevant talk on “Taming the Tongue” by Sis. Liza Caleda.  Sis. Liza pointed out how speech can have tremendous power for good and for evil. Such topic is in fact apt for most of us and in most of her examples, we really are guilty of saying words that can hurt, rather than words that can heal. Sis. Liza also mentioned, that as followers of Christ, our words should have positive impact on the lives of others, should increase faith in God and secure hope in His promises. So as what even our parents tell us, watch your tongue!  For the words that come out can either be a blessing or a curse.

The start of this month was quite odd without our usual First Friday Mass, but some Community fun-loving members took advantage of the long weekend going out of town.  The Care Group of Bro. Larry and Sis. Joji Escuban, along with other members, braved the ‘rapids’ of Sukabumi for a water rafting with their kids. Before the month ended, they took out the kids for a picnic, horseback-riding and fishing in Bogor. These parents surely know how to make lasting memories for their children.

Some 30 members of the Community and their children had a weekend fellowship at Wisma Anthony in Anyer. More than the cool breeze, the inviting sea and the sumptuous food was the deeper bonding that comes when brothers and sisters spend time with one another.

Watch out for the forthcoming Anniversary Celebration of Genesis on November 10 at Ibis Hotel, with Bro. Bo Sanchez, from the Light of Jesus Community in the Philippines, as the guest speaker. There will be a talk to be given also by Bro. Bo on November 8, 7:30 p.m. at the Gereja Santa Maria Social Hall.  Everyone is invited to attend.
