SHARING
-
-

-
-
- We all belong to a
family, which means we all
have responsibilities to
take.
God entrusted us with the task of raising godly children and
maintaining a family which is God-centered. Did you know that God
gives us the power to make sure we live up to this responsibility?
-
- Often, we feel insecure when
somebody would share how great their children are, how they put the
time to let them grow up to what they are right now; more so, how
happy and contented their family has become.
-
- To most of us, it is like finding
a secret formula on how to raise nice kids, on how to maintain good
relationships with our spouses (and parents as well). We resort to
seeking advices from others, to reading inspirational books and
watching films related to these matters.
-
- What hit me most is the
realization that came to me one day that there can never be a
perfect family. Why? Because we are all imperfect beings. So
negative as it may sound, it does not mean that we are pushed upon
the wall without any options about having a happy family.... all the
time! Sounds impossible? In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, the Bible
says "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks to God
at every moment. This is the will of God, your vocation as
Christians." Believe me, if we follow this, even the worst
times in our family life could turn 180 degrees into happy moments.
For as the saying goes: "The family that prays together stays
together." It is even timely now that the month of October is the
month of the Holy Rosary. The power of prayer can enrich our family
life's experiences.
-
- Love is a wonderful word. But if
not put into action, it just remains like any other word. The times
now are different, because there are so many influences which affect
our marriage and children without us knowing. But if love is there,
everything would be easy. It is the kind of love where we live for
God and not for ourselves, the kind of love where we live for our
spouses and children, and our children's children.
-
- Once, a priest told us that the
mother has a very important role in the family. For like Mother
Mary, the focus is on the role she took in the Holy Family. And in
the story of the prodigal son, why did one of the brothers ran
away? Did you notice that there was no mention of a mother in the
story? If the prodigal son has a mother, could he have ran away
still? (without prejudice to fathers, of course)
-
- With the belief in what the priest
said about the mother's special role in every family, let me end
with this personal prayer: So as I live this life leading my family
where it is destined to be, may the Lord God Almighty guide me in
spite of all my imperfections, may we, as a family, spend each day
as a gift from You with joy, and may I be a good example to my
children and spouse, so that I might bring them closer to You, each
day of our lives. Teach each of us how to love others and not
ourselves, and let us see Your hand at work in all the events of our
life. Amen.
