Genesis Happenings - HERE'S THE LATEST

Tintin MagbitangThe Anniversary Event - by Tintin Magbitang

As Genesis celebrates its 7th year anniversary as a Community, we can’t help but feel blessed.

November 8 has been marked in the calendar of Genesis members and non-members alike for the talk of Bro. Bo Sanchez, our guest speaker.  The evening started off with a well-participated prayer worship led by Bro. Percy Cabauatan.  This was immediately followed by Bro. Bo’s talk entitled “You Can Change Your Life.”  For the full-packed Gereja Santa audience, this is truly an eye opener, particularly for those in their journey towards deepening their relationship with God.  Only when we acknowledge the “blind spots” or the Delilah’s in our lives, then we can initiate some changes.  For sure everyone will be really challenged to carry out the three recommendations and action plan suggested by Bro. Bo.  Just choose that someone who can consistently remind you.

All the CG and ministry heads had leadership training also with Bro. Bo at the house of Bro. Benny and Sis. Liza Caleda last Saturday, November 9.  It was a good opportunity for the Community leaders to review their 9 Areas of Growth and find out how they can assist each other to better serve the Community.

And of course, comes Sunday, November 10, the 7th Year Anniversary Celebration of Genesis at Ibis Hotel in Slipi.  All members came and sported their “touch of Batik” outfits, the dress code for the event.  As how Sis. Joji Escuban described it…”not a minute passed that we were not blessed” during this day.  Our direction for Genesis for this coming year is "Be holy, because I am holy." (Leviticus 11:44).  Deepen your prayer life and fellowship with Him daily.  Let your light shine before others bringing the messages of love, peace and hope.

The day started off with the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Noel Villafuerte.  The direction for the Community was very much consistent with the Gospel about the ten bridesmaids.  Fr. Noel’s homily was wonderfully delivered with a challenge for everyone to be alert and to be “holy” so the door won’t close on us when the time comes.  For the anniversary, the Mass was made different by the active involvement of the children in the readings and offertory.  A symbolic offering of gifts (clock, water, planner, etc.) prepared by the different care groups, also highlighted the Mass.  And of course, our Music Ministry, selected very inspiring songs just for the occasion.

The entire celebration was emceed by no other than moi and my beloved husband, Andy.  We were greatly honored to be offered of introducing our worship leaders and our beloved guest speaker, but most importantly, for simply being actively led by the Spirit to run the entire event.

After getting filled up by the Spirit from His messages during the Mass, we were further filled during the praise and worship that followed led by Bros. Thor Barleta and Fred Manibog.  All the members got so energized and filled up after the powerful worship.  And the morning was just starting.

This was immediately followed by a talk by Bro. Bo, our special guest speaker, entitled “Claim Your Dream and Move Forward to Your Mission”.  Bro. Bo explained that we need to know what we want, claim God’s dream as our dream, God’s dream for us will always be for others, we need to leave anything that prevents us from fulfilling God’s dream, and we should be willing to sacrifice what we love.  Afterwards, all we need to do is withdraw from God’s resources and fulfill God’s mission for our lives.

After the sumptuous lunch that followed, the children started preparing for their presentation, wearing their colorful costumes.  While final preparations were being done, the Music Ministry led the community in singing a medley of songs.  The most popular song has been “For the Lord is My Tower” taught recently to us by Br. Bo Sanchez.

It was then the Children’s Ministry’s turn to perform, starting with a song “You and I” taught by Sis. Susan Miranda and Sis. Libay.  This was followed by a song interpretation to the tune of “Will You Be There?” where all the children sang, danced, acted and did sign language (see separate article).  Even with minimal practice, the kids gave their best performance and learned to glorify the Lord by sharing their talents, amidst the excitement of all the stage moms and dads.

This was followed by a slide show of pictures that recaptured all the Genesis activities during the past year.  I have painstakingly arranged the pictures taken by Bro. Alfred Torres into a scrapbook of “community blessings”.  The presentation was actually reminiscing all the relevant events during the year and thanking the Lord for all these wonderful blessings He has showered the Community.  I wish to thank my husband, Andy, for obtaining the scanner to use and keeping our kids at bay while I was preparing the presentation.

The background music used during the recap was “Lead Me Lord” as we acknowledge the presence of God’s hands in all the activities done by Genesis.  The same song was later marvelously sung by Kara Caleda, after she shared how she herself is personally led by the Lord in her life.

Afterwards there was a short game led by Sis. Pinky Torres called “How Well Do You Know Your CG Head”.  All the Care Groups were represented and the game demonstrated how intimately the members of the CG know their heads.  Sis. Let Bravo and her CG Head, Sis. Sansu Garin, won the game.

Bro. Benny Caleda, a member of the Pastoral Team, then gave his thanksgiving message to the Community and later led the Community in giving recognition to our Head Servant, Bro. Pete Lapid, for his invaluable service to the Community.  The most special plaque of appreciation was awarded to Bro. Pete.  What followed was a tear-jerking testimony by Bro. Pete about his struggles in his personal prayer life, and particularly, in his role as the leader in the Community.  The uninhibited revelation he shared to the members just showed how much he loves and have faith in each and every member, and the community at large.  He also reaffirmed that leading the Community is really God’s mission for Him.

Bro. Pete later led all the members into a Community-wide ministry time where everyone, particularly CG heads, prayed for each other, in a gesture of brotherhood and fellowship and showing genuine concern for the individual needs of the members.  It was the best way to end the anniversary on a loving note.

Before Bro. Bo left for Manila last Wednesday, November 13, the Community leaders had a thank you dinner for him.  We can’t seem to thank him enough for the way he has inspired us to make changes in our life and pushing us to take on our individual missions thru these talks, books and other publications.  Genesis for Bro. Bo, after all, is not just another Catholic Community.  There is that genuine concern and love from him, as he has witnessed this Community and its leaders grow to what it is right now.

For Bro. Bo, we wish to express our deepest gratitude for his dedication and concern not only for Genesis, but for all his other endeavors.
