Isaiah
55:6 - “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He
is near.”
- I
very rarely get sick. (Praise God!) But as I write
this article, I’ve been sick for almost a week now. From past
experience, I know that this is God’s way of telling me to slow
down.
-
- I
got this message from Isaiah 55 a week before I fell sick. But still I
wasn’t listening. I didn’t pay attention. I was too busy to slow
down. I continued to push myself until my body gave up. And so I was
forced to take the rest that my body needed so badly.
-
- The
40 days of Lent has just started. And I praise God for the very timely
rest He gave me. No, it’s not that I am happy to be sick. Not at
all. It’s just that lately I had been busy and distracted with so
many things. Even my morning prayer time was being affected.
-
- To
spend one day with the Lord - reflecting on Him, enjoying His
presence, listening to Him, feeling His love, praying, talking to Him,
singing to Him - is not enough. It’s a feeling of pure joy and real
peace (despite being physically sick). A feeling of knowing that your
God loves you. A feeling of certainty that He is there right beside
you; happy to be with you.
-
- Even
one whole week is not enough. To reflect on God’s goodness,
faithfulness and mercy. To think about His great love for us that He
sent His only Son to redeem us.
-
- To
meditate on the truth that Jesus left His throne to become one like us
except for sin, that He suffered and died on the Cross so that we
might be saved through Him. To recount the bountiful blessings and
gifts He has given us. To ponder on what He has done and continues to
do in our own life and in the lives of our loved ones. To muse on the
many answered prayers we have received.
-
- To
contemplate on the beauty and glory of His Kingdom where we shall all
be according to His plan. To reflect on how we have responded to all
these, on what we have given to Him in return, on what we have done
and what we have failed to do. Truly one week is not enough.
-
- Brothers & sisters in Christ, we
already know that Lent is a time for reflection. A time of spending
time and keeping quiet with the Lord, just being with Him. I don’t
have to say it thru this article. Yet, why are we not doing it?
-
- I
ask you, I encourage you, I admonish, Brothers & sisters. This
Lent spend time with the Lord alone. Don’t wait for you to get sick.
Do it now. And enjoy His presence, hear His voice and experience His
joy, His peace and above all His love. He is just there eagerly
waiting for you!
