A NEW LIFE, A NEW BEGINNING
- By Ramon Martillano

A few
weeks back, my wife Vi had an experience that once again proved that we
are not in control of our lives. That with a blink of an eye, at the snap
of a finger, we could lose everything we have, including our precious
lives.
One Saturday
afternoon, my family and I decided to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Just to make sure that they would arrive on time, I phoned my wife Vi and
was told that she, my daughter Mary Anne and our helper were already
walking on their way to the restaurant. Five seconds later, my hand phone
rang and I heard my wife crying. My heart pulsated faster because
I sensed from Vi’s quivering voice that something terrible happened. As
our helper later narrated, two motorcycle-riding men came from behind and
tried to snatch Vi’s bag while she was walking. The sudden and strong
force of the snatcher pulling her bag caused her to fall down. Her head
hit the concrete pavement; her body rolled over and was dragged a few
meters by the still speeding motorcycle. She was unconscious for a few
moments because of the hard impact of her fall. Praise God, the snatcher
finally released her bag when he saw that an approaching car would hit Vi.
By the saving grace of God, the car stopped and did not hit her at all.
By the time the car stopped, its front tires were right at her face! If
the car was running at a high speed, only God knows what would have
happened. She suffered bruises all over her body including a big bump on
her head. After visiting the hospital, the doctor later told us that
there were no symptoms of serious head injuries. Praise God!
Reflecting on this
incident later, human as I am, I asked God why this unfortunate incident
happened. However, my wife looked at this incident positively. Despite
what had happened, she kept on praising the Lord that she was protected
from further harm. Really, it could have been worse! We were furious for
what the snatchers did to her. But what good would that do? So we decided
to forgive them and even prayed for them. After the incident, she shared
with us that God through her angel Michael protected her from
unimaginable harm. For indeed in Psalm 91:11, it is written, “God will
put His angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you go.”
Further in Psalm 91:14, God says, “I will save
those who love Me and will protect those who acknowledge Me as Lord.”
I would like to
praise and thank the Lord for giving Vi a new life, a new
beginning. We were reminded once again that in whatever situation, we
have to praise God! Further, we realized once more that we don’t own our
lives, which our Creator can take back anytime He wishes to. You know
brothers and sisters, the first thing I do every morning when I wake up is
to thank the Lord for giving me another day to live, for allowing me to
wake up “intact.” I thank Him every morning for giving me another chance
to repair my wrongdoings and for giving me another opportunity to serve
Him.
As long as we live, and not only during Easter, may we
always remember that God gave His only begotten Son so that we may have
a new life, a new beginning; a new, clean and sinless slate. Jesus
sacrificed Himself so that all our sins may be wiped out. He redeemed us
with His most precious blood. Let us not put to waste this supreme, loving
sacrifice from our Lord Jesus Christ. Glory, honor and praise be to our
Lord Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Protector!

whisper?
- Have you felt His
powerful hand working in your life recently?
- Everyday, people are
experiencing God’s mighty Word in their lives and it is a pity that very
few know about it. Do you have a story to tell? Some Good News to
share?
- E-mail us (genesis@catholic.org) or fax us
