Da Vinci, Picasso, Van Gogh… what do they have in common?  They have inspired a lot of people through their works of art, which had become priceless in today’s world. Works of art are expressions of one’s self. It pacifies the eyes. My own collection of “Mother and Child” artworks not only soothes my eyes but also calms my spirit.

The image of the mother and child recalls our Christian tradition of the Virgin Mother and the Infant Jesus. It shows that immeasurable love of a mother for her child. This same image depicts my deep and great love for my own mother and the inspiration she had given me to have that same love and respect for our Blessed Mother Mary. My life’s journey has been full of challenges I overcame and I owe a lot to the two of the most loving women in my life. They are truly women extraordinaire. Their prayers, love and patience have no doubt led me to a greater understanding of my faith and my deep love for the Lord. My ‘Mother and Child' is a journey that begins with a mother's hope for her child's success on the road ahead. A road that could take one to the highest point of life.

My life has been full of grace from the time I was brought into this world.  I thank and praise God for giving me these two beautiful women who stood by me, in times of failures and in times of success.   My mother has been there for me, closely watching every move and every decision I make. What I am now – being successful in my chosen career, having a loving husband (she approved of Alfred from the very first day she met him, unlike my other suitors) and having that deep devotion to our Blessed Mother – I have my mother to thank for. Every time I made the wrong move, she would always be at my side, giving me advice, constantly reminding me that I can choose the kind of life I want to have in the future by the decisions I make today.  And of course, she constantly prays for me to our Mother; she is my intercessor here on earth.

I have come to know my other Mother at the age of three.  My mother introduced me to her by bringing me along to Church to attend processions in honor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. I can’t help but remember that day in Sto. Domingo Church when obsessed by my desire to pray with her, I intently watched her go through the colored beads and whisper the ‘Hail Mary’s.’  I asked her to teach me how to do that and before I knew it, at the very young age of five, I have already developed a devotion to the prayer of the Rosary and admiration for the greatest mother of all. She has been very patient with me. I have gone astray, I have failed to constantly honor her Son but she never fails me. She is my direct intercessor to our Lord Jesus Christ.  If only I can hug her…

They say that a mother’s influence is her greatest privilege and most serious responsibility. And I believe these two remarkable women have played their role to the fullest. I am their child and they are my mothers…
