- Dear Father Binzler Bintaro,
P.C.
-
- It is a pleasure to greet
you on this day as you complete fifty years in the Society of
Jesus. I can well imagine the memories and joys that must be
in your heart today as your many friends and I join you in
thanking God for the countless moments of grace that have come
together to make up a half century of Jesuit commitment. Your
continuing witness as a religious testifies that the Lord who
is mighty has done great things for you.
-

- My review of your apostolic
works shows that you have faithfully dedicated your life as a
parish priest. From the beginning, you have faithfully served
the Lord in the Church as parish priest. During the decade of
1960 – 1970, Indonesian society suffered a very bad situation
economically and politically. You were in Delanggu, a rural
parish about 25 kilometers to the south west of Surakarta. You
performed an excellent job there before moving to St. Anthony
Church, Kotabaru, Yogyakarta. For four years, you faithfully
served the Lord and people of St. Anthony Church, Kotabaru,
Yogyakarta.
-

- Your positive influence
enriched the life of the parishioners there especially as you
gave witness of being a simple Jesuit.
-
- The third parish where you
gave an outstanding service to the people was St. Therese
Church, Bongasari, Semarang. You erected five chapels, built
the secretariat buildings of the parish and established a
nursing house for elderly and disabled people. You were a very
creative Jesuit priest at that time, particularly in liturgy.
You encouraged parishioners to enliven the liturgy especially
the liturgy of Passion Week. In your time, Bongasari was very
famous for its special procession on Palm Sunday and
dramatization of the Passion of Jesus. Catechism for baptism,
communion, chrism and Sunday school for children was held in
every station. You were also involved in education by
strengthening the Canisius Foundation around Bongasari Parish.
The parishioners still remember you as one of the best
“shepherds” they have ever had.
-
- You served remarkably well
St. Mary Church, Tangerang, for twelve years. It was your
longest tenure as parish priest. Physically, you erected a
very representative church and a parish priests’ residence
with
out
neglecting your pastoral activities and your service to the
people. It was very obvious that you were very close to the
parishioners. You loved them, and they loved you.
-
- Your concern for the poor
cannot be ignored. The parish ran several social activities
such as a leprosarium, a medical centre for the poor, and a
nursing house for the elderly. Your dedication to them was
excellent. Furthermore, you built some buildings for the poor.
-
- You have been found to be a
very humble and simple Jesuit; your simplicity of life is
really your strength;
your total dedication to the people is very laudable. Even
when you had to be an assistant parish priest, you humbly
followed the pastoral policy and management of the new parish
priest. You have been a great parish priest.
-
- And so at this time, I wish
to offer my sincere gratitude for your years of dedicated
service to the Society. I join with your fellow Jesuits and
friends in thanking God for the blessings that have filled
both your life and theirs. To mark this occasion, I am happy
to apply, from the treasury of the Society, fifty Masses for
your intentions. I commend myself and the whole Society to
your prayers and sacrifices.
-
- Yours sincerely in Christ,
- Peter-Hans Kolvenbach
