INTERCEDING
WITH THE
-
HOLY SPIRIT
- By Beth

“In
the same way, the Spirit also comes to help us, weak as we are.
For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit Himself pleads
with God for us in groans that words cannot express.”
(Romans 8:26)
-
-
These words of St. Paul in his letter to the Romans are
very true - as it has been confirmed in the Gospel of St. John
14:26 which states, “From now on, the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom
the Father will send in My Name will teach you all things and
remind you of all that I have told you.”

A handful of non-working mothers in the Community have been
given by the Lord a special mission, the important mission of
praying for others – the Intercessory Ministry. We gather and
implore the presence of the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us as
we intercede for others. Yes, the Lord is true to His words.
The Holy Spirit is, indeed, our Helper and He helps us say the
prayer that is pleasing to our Lord.

Being the head of the Intercessory Ministry, I spend time
praying for my family’s personal needs and the needs of others in
my private prayers. Silently, I pray to our Lord for intentions
brought to my attention. At least, it would just be between me and
the Lord. No pressures, I thought. However, the Lord had bigger
plans for the Intercessory Ministry. He led our elders to
convince me to lead the non-working mothers to meet on a weekday
and lift up all the petitions in prayer. At first, I was
reluctant, for I know that the task of leading the prayers will
definitely rest upon my shoulders. I am not equipped as to what
to pray for and how to do it. I am not used to praying aloud with
others intently listening to what I say. I needed to do a lot of
preparations – writing down and practicing what I should say and
checking out what songs to match the theme of the prayer. I often
could hear my heart beating faster and faster.
-
-
Lord, You have allowed us to have this Intercessory
Ministry. I do not know how I ought to pray. I do not know how
to lead the others but I believe Your words. Equip me, O Lord and
help me. I cannot be effective in leading the prayer without Your
guidance. Send forth Your Holy Spirit upon us and let the others
hear You through me. May only Your words come out of our lips.
Amen.

Every time, I would utter these words before our meetings.
Now, whenever we have our intercessory prayers every Thursday
morning, whoever the prayer leader maybe, we do not need lengthy
preparations anymore. All we need is to ask the infilling of the
Holy Spirit. And the power of the Most High empowers us with
strength and courage to face whatever challenges we might have.
-
- I pray
that the Spirit of the Living God may manifest Himself in each and
every one of us everyday of our lives. God bless.
