Ramon Martillano - Genesis Surabaya Head ServantPRAISE GOD ANYHOW!
By Ramon Martillano

“I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” Jeremiah 29:11

Last month, I lost my job. Praise the Lord! After working for almost nine years with my former employer, my employment contract was not renewed. I thought that I would be working for this company for another ten years! But that was not the case. God has other plans for my family and me.

Confused and beleaguered, I had to ask Sis. Joy Enerio’s help to write an article for the GNB last month (thanks Sis. Joy!) After learning that I would lose my job, I was totally depressed so I could not concentrate on writing an article. I thought that I would not be back writing this article for the August issue of GNB.

Anyway, sometime in June, my former employer advised me that my contract, which was about to expire, would not be renewed, or at least I was given a 50/50 chance. Last month’s topic was about discipleship and I thought, upon hearing this shocking news that I wanted to write my last article for GNB on what I have done as a disciple during my 12 years stay in Indonesia.

The ensuing weeks after hearing this devastating news were continuous sleepless nights. If ever I could sleep, I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking of what’s going to happen next, especially for our children. I could not eat properly either. My wife was quite worried about my health. Our options were very limited. I was totally confused. I could not think properly. Together with some close friends, my wife and I bombarded heaven with our prayers.  Meantime, we started this heart-breaking task of packing our personal belongings.

Despite this mind-shattering event in our life, I had to lead the prayer meetings of the Genesis Surabaya Community. The succeeding two Fridays that I led the Community into worship were so powerful! So intense were our prayers, our worship that the Lord probably took pity on me because one day, after the Lord sensed that I was about to give up, He answered our prayers, our hearts’ desires. As Sis. Anna Lee shared, “We experience God's grace and power when we praise!”  Amen!

A friend of ours heard about our situation and she immediately offered to help. She talked to her husband and I was told that one of their daughters even asked their own community members to pray for me that I would soon find a new job. She would also ask her Dad every evening, if he had found a job for me. She’s an angel!  Through her, the Lord made sure that her Dad is always reminded to help me find a new job.  And I have to proclaim that the Lord really works in ways we cannot see, in ways we cannot imagine. Through these God-sent couple, in less than two weeks, I got a new job! Praise and glory to our God, the great Provider! (By the way, my new employers are these God-sent couple.)

In his Kerygma article, “Finding Treasure in Your Trials,” Bro. Bo Sanchez emphasized that “in every problem, there’s a blessing and in every trial, there’s a treasure.”  How true! We learned a lot from this experience.  This is the Lord’s way to purify us further. He is molding us to be more humble in our ways.  To be more generous to others.  To totally trust in Him, no matter what. To continue serving Him despite all the difficulties.  And to praise and thank Him unceasingly all the days of our lives!

As the song goes, “I will praise You Lord no matter what tomorrow brings; no matter what the circumstance I am in.” This is how we should relate with our Father in Heaven. Even in the darkest moments, we should continue to praise and thank Him!  And thank you to all of you brothers and sisters for praying for us.  Thank you Nino for going out of your way to help me find a new job. But most of all, thank You and praise You Jesus! Glory to Your Name. Alleluia! Amen!
