CAPTURE THE MOMENT

Children are
unstoppable!!! Parents are shouting!!! Well, what do we get? It’s
vacation and whether we like it or not, children are here to stay (at
home for the most time). And you are asking me if I want to have
children. Surely, children will test your patience to the max and
they will definitely cause mothers to have a wrinkle or two, but children
are the parents’ pride and joy. So my answer to the question: A BIG YES!
Thanks to the
ingenuity of our Children’s Ministry Head Sis. Tintin, our children were
able to spend some time away from home. For a start, we had the dance
workshop every Wednesday where our children were taught hip-hop dance
steps by a professional dancer. Last JULY 18 -20, we held our
2003 Summer Camp at Puncak. It was a fun-filled outing as we saw our
children play games, dance and have lots of fun. Special thanks also to
the parents for their support and cooperation. (See
G KIDSPACE* for more
stories and pictures.)

Our Bro. Desmond and
Sis. Mildred gave their last talk before their family moves to Singapore.
The talk is about marriage as a vocation. Marriage is also a calling from
the Lord. To the D’Souza family, thank you for all your teachings and
support to the Community. God bless!!!
JULY 18, 2003
While some of the
families are out in Puncak camping, others remained here in Jakarta to
have our regular Friday prayer meeting. It was sharing night where
members gave praise for the wonderful work of God’s hands. Bro. Pete Lapid
led the worship that evening.

A dear friend and a
sister, Sis. Leslie, gave a talk on Finding God’s Will. At these times of
confusion and material world, we must always seek God’s will in our
lives. And seeking God’s will means completely depending and relying on
Him that He will do what is best for us.

As the saying goes,
“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” As we struggle to make our
lives holy, we also struggle to make our bodies healthy. And so, we had
our basketball tournament at the Ragunan Sports Complex. Thanks to the
care groups of Sis. Gina and Bro. Martin for coordinating this year’s
event. Have you ever seen a basketball game where the ball seems to have
a magnetic force on all the players? Well, that’s what we had for our
women’s division where all we did was grab, hold and shoot the ball (i.e.,
if you can with all the other players swooping around you like a flock of
angry chickens). We all had a good laugh and definitely, a good game.

Our First Friday
Mass for August was an emotional roller-coaster event. The Mass was
celebrated by Monsignor Christophe El-KASSIS, Secretary of the Vatican
Nunciature; his farewell Mass with Genesis before he leaves for his next
diplomatic assignment.
It was also a thanksgiving Mass for the birthday of our Head Servant Bro.
Pete and for a successful and fun-filled Summer Camp of the G Kids. The
kids sang a beautiful offertory song accompanied on the organ by Karla,
the budding pianist daughter of Bro. Noel and Sis. Menchie Abawag. After
the Mass, the Community prayed for Msgr. Christophe, who in turn prayed
for Bro. Pete. It was a sad and joyful moment at the same time. To Msgr.
Christophe, thank you for all the teachings, Bible lessons and support you
gave to the Community. To Bro. Pete, thank you for your continued
commitment in leading the Community. God bless you both!!!

The series of
talks on the Beatitudes, which was the subject of Msgr. Christophe’s
homily during the First Friday Mass, started with the first part. The
teachings on the Beatitude, “Blessed are the meek, for they will
inherit the earth,” were remarkably conveyed by Fr. Harold “Harry”
Toledano, OAD, a visiting priest from the Philippines.
