JESUS:
THE TRUE AND
- PERFECT MODEL OF
PURITY
- By Beth Manibog

The Bible Dictionary
defines chastity as inward purity. A chaste person is somebody who is
innocent of sexual impurity, in desire, imagination and action. In short,
it means being pure in heart, thoughts and actions. As stated in the
Catechism of the Catholic Church, pure in heart refers to those who have
attuned their intellects and wills to the demands of God’s holiness. The
Bible says, “Be holy for I (your God) am holy” (1 Peter 1:16). To
live a holy life, we need to center our lives in Jesus, our true and
perfect model of purity.
As technology
advances, the devil takes advantage of what it offers. Clear
manifestations of this are the indecent materials, which are exposed
everywhere – in the Internet, advertisements and magazines - corrupting
the minds of our children, an object of concern as to their future. If in
our present times, it seems so difficult to live a chaste life, what more
would it be for our children?
The Lord commands us
to live as Christ lived. In spite of the temptations hurled upon Him by
the devil, He remained steadfast to the will of the Father and lived a
life pure and holy before God, the Father. His fervent
prayers and His
undivided determination to accomplish His mission, has gained for us
salvation from eternal damnation. Hence, God, the Father proclaimed,
“This is My Beloved Son (Jesus), in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew
3:17).
As we reflect upon
the life of Jesus, imitating His ways, through constant prayers and
communion with God, being obedient to His will, we will live a chaste
life, pleasing before God. Instilling these godly virtues in the young
minds of our children and nurturing these in their hearts are sure
shields, protecting them from the temptations of this world.
In the midst of
temptations, we have God, the Father to call on to deliver us from every
evil (Matthew 6:13).
Let us, therefore, remain in His love and maintain a constant communion
with Him. To live a chaste life is to live in constant realization of
Jesus’ presence in our lives.
