Jesus, the Great Healer - By Ramon Martillano

“Lord, I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the Word and I shall be healed!”

This happened about a year ago. One of our daughters was diagnosed to be with a rare and incurable disease. Together with close friends, we prayed fervently and unceasingly that the Lord Jesus would heal our daughter. We prayed for the intercession of the Blessed Mother Mary. All throughout this ordeal, as we went to Holy Mass everyday, we sensed that the Lord was “talking” to us through the daily Bible passages/reflections from the Companion. That in sickness, “there is nothing impossible with God if only we trust in Him.” My wife and I spent long sleepless nights and nerve-wracking moments thinking about the future of our daughter because of her illness. With bended knees, we begged and cried for God’s mercy. In the office, I could not concentrate on my work. We felt as if the whole world crushed on our shoulders. Until a friend  advised us to “let go and let God work,” because this sickness is already beyond our control, only a miracle from God could heal her. As the song goes, “God will make a way when there seems to be no way; He works in ways we can not see, He will make a way for me.”

Then the Lord Jesus led us to Singapore to seek a second opinion and a more thorough medical examination. The nurse in Singapore even told me that this illness has no cure and the most they could do is to prevent it from worsening. Without any hesitation and with full trust in the Lord, I replied to her, “My daughter will be healed, there is nothing impossible with our Lord Jesus Christ!” And indeed, when we received the results of the laboratory tests, we praised the Lord to high heavens because our daughter was miraculously healed! She was declared normal and the virus was nowhere to be found in her system! Perplexed, not even the attending physician could explain how she got healed, even before she could start taking the medicines prescribed by him. For who can explain the ways of the Lord! O how great are your ways Lord!  Alleluia Amen!

Then just recently, our 19-year old son was diagnosed with having hypertension, high uric acid, high sodium, etc. Because of his young age, we never expected him to be suffering from these ailments. And again, the Lord made a way, through a routine medical examination, to let us know of our son’s condition so that he can take the required medications. Now he is very conscious of the food he takes. Praise and glory to GOD!

Several years ago, my wife also suffered from hypertension so much so that her diastolic blood pressure went up to as high as 220 (against a normal level of between 120 - 130). Most people  having this high BP would have suffered a heart attack. But again, the Lord Jesus did not allow that to happen. He saved my wife from any harm! Amen! And not too long ago, after drinking this famous herbal drink everyday, in less than two months my cholesterol level decreased significantly from a total of 240 to only 177. Thank you Lord!

However, while some people get well, some people don’t. God has His own reasons why. My mother and father, mainly  because of  old age, are not perfectly well. My mother-in-law is attached to an oxygen tube 24 hours a day. Because of this she could hardly move and therefore has to stay at home most of the time. Nevertheless, we praise and thank the Lord that they are still with us.

Now it is good to be physically healed but I believe and I am sure you will agree with me dear readers that it is more important to be “spiritually” healthy. Ten years ago, I was a sinner. Am still is. But not as bad as before. With God’s grace, I am sure that in His time I will be perfectly healed, spiritually that is. Moreover, the trials that my wife and I experienced during the past few years have made us stronger in our faith!  This is actually the best thing that ever happened to our lives, “Spiritual Healing.” Being much closer to the Lord.  And this is what we have been praying for, that God will strengthen and deepen our faith. In James 1:12 it says, “Happy are those who patiently endure trials, because afterwards they will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love Him.”  Armed with this stronger and deeper faith, we are fully confident that He will be there with outstretched arms, always ready to carry our heavy loads in times of troubles (Matthew 11:28). Yes, we would like to be physically well all the days of our lives, but we would also like to be spiritually healthy all the time and be prepared anytime to meet our Creator.

As an SMS goes, “There’s an ENERGY that is not found in food; STRENGTH not found in exercise; VIGOR not found in vitamins; that’s the LORD JESUS in you. May we  always have a CHRIST- charged day!”

Yes, Lord, only say the word and I shall be healed! Not only physically but more importantly, spiritually! Glory to Your name Jesus the great Healer!! Alleluia, Amen!
