I wish to express once again my Congratulations to the Genesis Catholic Community with my cordial good wishes of growth in the faith and unity through prayer with the Word of God.

These two dimensions characterize this Community in all their initiatives.

-Prayer. We all are invited to pray always, to pray with confidence, trusting in our Lord - who knows all our needs, who listens to our call for help. He is our Father and never will abandon us.

In prayer we find strength and light in moment of suffering and distress. Prayer means a dialogue with God, listening to His voice in our heart and conscience.

Genesis, I am sure, is helping many people to pray everyday, to discover the loving presence of our Lord in our life, to pray together in unity of hearts and find that peace we can only find in the Lord. "Come to Me all you who labour and are overburden," said Jesus, "and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:29)

From here we have the second dimension of Genesis. We have to pray with the Bible.

- Word of God. One of the greatest innovations of the Vatican Council II is this new approach to the Word of God. We all are invited to pray and meet God through the Scriptures. We have to pray meditating on the Bible, on the "Word of God always alive and active," given personally to each one of us, as a living and refreshing water.

It is important to realize that God desires to communicate with all of us. He wants our friendship with Him to deepen and to grow. He reaches us through the Bible, through Jesus, called Word of God.

So reading the Gospel, meditating on the teachings of Jesus and trying to apply those words to our daily life is the main duty of a Christian.

God speaks directly to us, to our heart in the words of the Scriptures. We may use different ways of prayer but it is essential for all of us to start again from the Scriptures.

The Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini of Milan, in his pastoral letter addressed to his entire diocese for the year 2002, is inviting to go back to the Scriptures, to restart from the Word of God.

This is my wish for all of you, members of the Genesis Catholic Community and also for me: "To go back continuously to the Word of God, to pray with the Scriptures." This method should engage the whole person - our body, our heart and spirit. During prayer, one both listens and speaks to God.

May Mary, the Mother of Jesus, who was keeping in her with faith and love all what was happening in her life with her Son, teach us how to meditate the Word of God in our daily life, how to discover, in silence and prayer, the mysterious presence in the Word. Amen.
