REMEMBERING MOMMY JANE

Dear Lola Jane,

I know that wherever you are now, you are happy, and you can see us.  I can see you smiling, very happy. I can still imagine your lips ready to kiss your apo’s (grandchildren). All your apo’s, including Jorald and Jenevieve, are so dear to you.  You had expressed your love so well to them.  Jorald and Jenevieve miss you so much, and Jorald says you are the best Lola in the whole world.

I still remember the time when Tita Nenette and Jovie had to go some place, and I was left to supposedly look after you, we were both lying down in your bed, and you lulled me to sleep with your good old stories.  I also remember the time when I got sick, and you took good care of me.  You had been so loving, so giving to Jovie, Jorald, Jenevieve and me, and to everybody. No wonder that a lot of people love you and attend your annual birthday celebration.

I also remember your story about you placing a mouse in your classmate’s pocket.  You really were full of life and humor.  I bet you are dancing in joy where you are now, or maybe making cards for all the saints there, or maybe you are now assigned to be the greeter there.  I hope you understand that we did not formally say goodbye to you last June when we left for Calgary. We hated to cry before you.  And we hate to cry now, but tears just come.  But these are tears of joy and sadness – joy for you are now where you belong, and sadness for you have left us.   We ask you, dear Lola Jane, to pray for us so we may have the vigor with which you had lived and loved.

We love you, we miss you, and we hope to see you again when our time comes.

Regi

Dear Lola,

There is a saying that you should live your life in such a way that when you die all the people are crying while you are smiling. And that’s what you did.  I know that you are smiling right now because you are now in the right place, the place where our Father in Heaven is.

Lola, the memories of times we had been together will always be in my heart. Our shopping together in Mayestik, Pasar Tanah Abang, lunch in Chandra restaurant in Glodok.  Those times were filled with laughter and tears. You always made sure that you had always something for me especially on my birthday. You made me happiest during my wedding. You made sure that everything was complete and organized.

LOLA, as I always say during your birthday, without you and your caring, I would not have this beautiful life right now. Our Lord Jesus Christ used you and Tita Nenette to make my life meaningful. The phrase “thank you” is not enough to express my deepest gratitude for all you have done for my family and me. The time we left Jakarta was really very hard for me. I did not intend not to say goodbye to you but I didn’t want you to be sad and cry. I thought then that was not goodbye since we planned to come and see you again. You left us but I know this is not goodbye but we will see each other again in the place where our God the Father prepared for us. Sadness we felt but gladness too for you are now with our Father in Heaven. LOLA, as Jorald says, you are the best LOLA in the whole world. Truly, you are the best LOLA I had ever had. We will miss you. We love you and we love you forever.

Jovie
