- Discovering
how to pray with others whom we do not know, who are different from
us, or who suffer in ways beyond our comprehension, is an essential
and profoundly spiritual task.
This world that we live in is a gift from God.
It is a world that needs more love, more generosity, more
mercy and more openness. We are meant to be brothers and sisters, to
be a family, with God as our Father.
And it is for this reason that we ask the Lord Jesus for
blessings of peace and solidarity through His Blessed Mother, Mary.
-
- It
all started through an inspiration from a Filipino priest, Fr. Vic
Robles, who visited Indonesia to spread the devotion to the Divine
Mercy. Fr. Vic Robles
challenged us to pray 1,000,000 Rosaries to ask the Blessed Mother
to intercede to our Lord Jesus Christ for peace and unity in
Indonesia. Friends from
the Expatriate Parish, through the initiative of Sis. Beth Roxas,
followed the footstep of the prayers that were offered for peace in
the Philippines – the prayer of the Holy Rosary.
-
- After
celebrating the Holy Mass at St. Stefanus Church on the First
Wednesday of March,
a Rosary Crusade for the healing and peace in Indonesia was
started. The mission is
to get the 1 million Rosary pledges by May 13, 2001, the feast of
Our Lady of Fatima. The devotees have up to December 31, 2001 to
carry out their pledges.
-
- I
had my doubts in being able to accumulate 1 million pledges. Let’s
face it. We are in a
country where our brothers and sisters are predominantly Muslims. But I underestimated the power of God. It was already a few weeks before the feast day and we have
just accumulated a little less than 500,000 pledges. We continued with the invitation to relatives and friends to
solicit pledges. Our
Indonesian brothers and sisters have really played a great role in
spreading the invitation and pledges poured in from all parts of the
country and around the world. And
on May 13, we were able to offer 1.2 million rosary pledges. Praise
to God!
-
- More
than the intention, more than the numerous hours spent to read
e-mails and receive the pledges, it was that unity and solidarity of
God’s people as a family that counts the most, not to mention the
opportunity to spread the prayer of the Holy Rosary to our Catholic
brothers and sisters in Indonesia.
Together, we created a mutual commitment.
-
- I
thank and praise God for making me a part of this crusade.
Not only did I meet beautiful people who have inspired me
because of their faith, but because I felt that once again, I am
drawn closer to Our Blessed Mother.
Thank you to all the people who made their pledges and I
thank those who have touched me in so many ways.
-
- God
bless us all!
