THE LATEST ~ What's Happening in Genesis

In
the month of May we continued to celebrate Easter followed by the
feast of the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. We dedicated the month to
Mother Mary to thank her for giving us her Son Jesus. We honored her
through the recitation of the Holy Rosary every Sunday before the 5:30
p.m. Mass coupled with a flower procession accompanied by Marian songs
by the Genesis Choir.
The best offering was given last May 13, the Feast of Our Lady
of Fatima, when we offered our pledges of one million Rosaries for
peace and healing for this nation, Indonesia.
Thanks to the concerted efforts of Sisters Beth Roxas and Pinky
Torres, members of the Santa Monica group and devotees of the Divine
Mercy who solicited the pledges through e-mail. The pledges exceeded
the target - - an overwhelming 1.2 million Rosaries (and counting) for
the remaining days of the year.
May
13, Mothers’ Day, was also co-celebrated with the double birthday
bash for the very charming sons of Bro. Percy and Sis. Olive Cabauatan
– CJ who turned 4 and MJ who turned 1.
The boys actually have the same birthday on April 30.
It was a joyous occasion with a hearty treat at Hartz Chicken
Buffet, as we fellowshipped with our brothers and sisters, and at the
same time celebrated with the other mothers in the Community.
For all mothers, we praise and thank God for the gift of
motherhood bestowed on you and which you gracefully carried out.
Every
other Tuesday at Jl. Bacang, we hold regular sessions of studying the
Scripture with Msgr. Christophe, who enlightens us on selected verses
from the Bible.
This month we probed deeper into the meaning of the Death and
Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The participants in this Bible Study are in no way experts on
the Bible but have the common desire to learn more about God’s
Words, believing in “Seek
first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).
But
the most-awaited event of the month was the start of the Empowered
Christian Living Seminar (ECLS). The Community made
announcements on the ECLS during the Atma Jaya Mass es
and posted invitations in several parishes in Jakarta.
It was truly the hand of the Lord working in the Community, as
an eager group of participants started coming to the Social Hall of
Gereja Santa Maria for the Orientation Talk held last May 11.
The very energetic and ever-inspired speaker for the
Orientation was no other than Sis. Liza Caleda, who was introduced by
her loving husband, Bro. Benny Caleda.
As Sis. Liza explained, each of the participant had his/her own
reason for coming to the ECLS, but the core of these reasons is
actually ANSWERING
TO THE CALL OF JESUS, to get to know Him better, and to
experience more fully the works of the Holy Spirit.
Very
inspiring to note is the presence of our Indonesian brothers and
sisters among the participants, which shows that Genesis has reached
out to the local community. The following Friday, May 18, more
participants arrived for the first talk - Session 1: “Does God Have a Plan? & Who is Jesus Christ?” given by Bro.
Fritz Mascarenhaz, our missionary brother from India.
The high-powered talk of Bro. Fritz was followed by a small
group discussion where the participants candidly shared their very
enlightening experiences about how they came to the ECLS and about
their relationship with Jesus.
It’s
always a pleasure and a privilege to have the ever-loved and
ever-amusing Fr. Andres Calleja from Don Bosco to spare his time with
the Community. His talk on “Repentance
and Faith” was so interesting one can never be bored because he
injects a lot of funny situations and true to life experiences. Shown
in the right photo, Fr. Andres played the guitar and sang an
Indonesian song about Jesus. What a priest!
We
hope to see more ECLS participants in the upcoming weeks.
May the Lord continue to enthuse and use the next speakers -
Bro. Desmond D’Souza, Sis. Liza Caleda, Bro. Pete Lapid, Bro. Fred
Manibog and Sis. Nenette Dizon – as powerful instruments to bring
the Lord’s message to His people.
And we encourage all the members of the Genesis Catholic
Community, who have been giving their full support and talents to this
Seminar, to continue fasting and praying for the success of the ECLS,
even as we thank those who have been our prayer warriors for this
seminar.

the ECLS page. Click here!
