We are the reason that He gave His life… We are the reason that He suffered and died… To the world that was lost, He gave all He could give… To show us the reason to live!

And so the song goes…

Father and son - Jovie & Jorald - performing during Genesis' Christmas Party 2000I was touched by the song “We Are The Reason.” While singing it I realized its true meaning… The reason for living is no other than our Lord Jesus Christ. He hung on the cross, thirsting for our love, and dying because of love – the greatest love that God has given us.  The chorus of the song goes like this “We are the reason that He gave His life.  We are the reason that He suffered and died.  To the world that was lost He gave all He could give, to show us the reason to live.”  Yes!  While His love is universal, I believe that He loves me personally and that I am the reason that He suffered and died. It is for me that He gave up His life.

When I was young, I had lots of plans for my life.  I wanted to be like that, I wanted to be like this.  But when I got what I wanted, I forgot everything else.  It didn’t occur to me who’s the reason for all these things.  For all the blessings that I receive every day, every hour, every minute of my life.  I forgot that our God created me in His own image to be like Him and to sing praises to Him.  But because of His great love for me, He gave me “free will” to do what I want to do, to choose which way I would go.  I did not always use this free will in the right way and in the right time. I asked myself, “Is this what I want to do choosing the wrong will, the will that caused me to fall into sin, instead of choosing His will?   I was watching the film “JESUS OF NAZARETH” and the last part hit me. Struck me to the core of my being! Opened my senses to the TRUTH, that my Lord suffered and died because of my wrong doings. Now I realize that on that old rugged cross my Jesus was showing me the reason to live.  And He was telling me even at His last sigh  “Jovie, it’s not yet too late, you can still live the way My Father wants you to live.”

LOVE is the way to live. LOVE is the reason for living. Love is to be shared with the least of my brothers and sisters.  LOVE is to be given without expecting anything in return.  Jesus has done all these for me, and even much more up to His last breath. Now I know that only Jesus can satisfy the longings of my soul and meet all my needs.

Really great is the measure of God's  LOVE".  His mercy endures forever and I am prompted to pray,   “Dearest Lord, thank you for giving me a chance to reconcile with You.  Thank you for giving me a chance to know the meaning of Love by Your cross and resurrection.  Help me, O Lord Jesus, to live the way the Father wants me to live.  Teach me O Lord, how to be an instrument of Your LOVE.  Take this blindness from my eyes so that I may see the goodness of Your work, and see You Lord in every person I meet.  Take the deafness from my ears so that I may hear Your voice and the cry of the least of Your brethren.  Take the hardness from my heart, O God. Make my heart Your dwelling place and lead me to the path of Your goodness and everlasting life.  Amen.”

I finally found the reason for living, that is giving every part of my life to Him.  In all that I do, every work that I take, I will give my whole life for Him.  Because, He is my reason to live.
