GOD
THE MERCIFUL
- Sermon of Fr.

A story goes – A young man met Jesus and was given
two boxes: one in black color and the other in yellow gold
color. “Put all your sins, sorrows and sufferings inside
the black box. All your happiness, peace and serenity
should be put inside the golden box,” Jesus told the
young man.
-
-
The young man did what God has ordered him to do. All his
sufferings, sorrows and anguish, he put inside the black
box. All his happiness, peace and serenity, he put inside
the golden box. After some time, the young man noticed that
the golden box seems heavier than the black box even though
he had put more sufferings, sins and sorrows inside the
black box compared with the happiness, peace and serenity he
had put inside the golden box. The young man was surprised
why it happened, so he asked God about it.
-
-
God answered, “My son, I put a hole at the bottom of the
black box. Every sin, sorrow and suffering that you put
inside disappear immediately, so you will not feel the
burden and you will forget them. On the other hand, the
golden box is tightly sealed so that even the smallest
happiness, peace and serenity which you experienced will be
yours and yours to keep forever.”
-
-
Because of His love for us, God ignores and does not count
the darkness in our past life because of our sins. God
wants all of us to live in happiness. God’s love makes all
of our sins and all of our sufferings disappear. In our
First Reading, God said in Isaiah 43: 25, “I it is, I am He,
who blots out your offenses for My own sake, and remembers
your sins no more.” This means God forgives us from all of
our sins, if we repent, if we want to come back and live in
God’s way. He does not remember the sins and mistakes we
have committed in the past. He wipes them away.
-
-
God always strives to save us and make us happy. In our
Gospel, Jesus healed and forgave a paralytic. The paralytic
had faith and believed Jesus can heal him, so he tried very
hard to meet Him. But he cannot see Jesus because no one
brings him to Jesus. With the help of four believers, the
paralytic was brought to Jesus. Jesus saw their great
faith. Barred by the door crowded full of people, they had
to carry and lower him in front of Jesus through the roof of
the house. Jesus said to the paralytic, “My son, your sins
are forgiven (Mark 2:5).” What Jesus did was to show that
God has the power to forgive the sins of those who repent
and turn to Him. He forgives and does not remember those
sins again.
-
-
To prove that He has the power to save mankind totally,
body and soul, Jesus healed the paralytic and said to him,
“Stand up, take up your mat, and go home” (Mark
2:11).
He rose, picked up his mat at once, and went away in the
sight of everyone. They were all astounded and glorified
God.
-
-
God is always faithful to His promise, that is, to save and
bring happiness to His people. He wants to forgive and heal
those who are sick, the weak and the sinners. He does not
remember our sins, but always loves and saves us. So, let
us help each other, and bring our brothers and sisters who
are paralytic, who are sinners, to be healed and forgiven by
Jesus until they are saved. The love of God erases all our
sins and all our sufferings as long as we are willing to
give ourselves to God.
