HIS Servant
-
WAR
OR NO WAR
- By Bro. Pete
Lapid
-
In one of his recent homilies, our Assistant Parish
Priest, Fr. K. J. Veeger, told us of someone who spoke these
words: “I love you more today than yesterday but less than
tomorrow.”
-
-
Impressed, I said to myself, “Wow! That person loves the
other person more and more everyday. And that love grows
even more and more day-by-day.
-

-
Suddenly, I realized, “Wait a minute. That’s not the kind
of love the LORD has for me! A love that changes everyday,
even if it meant getting better everyday. No. The Lord
loves me with a perfect love, an unchanging love. His love
for me never changes. It is the same yesterday, today and
forever. No matter what the circumstances are. With sin or
without sin. War or no war. His love does not diminish or
increase. It is total and infinitely perfect.”
-
-
This holds true for all of us. “I have loved you with an
everlasting love,” He says in Jeremiah 31:3. God loves each
and every one of us with a perfect love. And He proved that
love when Jesus died on the Cross for us. He sacrificed
Himself for us unconditionally.
-
-
In today’s conflicts, especially in the
Middle
East, soldiers are prepared to risk their lives for their
country. They are willing to face danger to the point of
possible death in obedience to their leaders.
-
-
What about us Christians? If soldiers are willing to take
that risk for the glory of their country, are we willing to
risk our lives for the glory of God? Are we prepared to
obey our true Leader when He commands and calls us?
-
-
St. Paul
tells us in Hebrews 12:4, “In your struggle against sin, you
have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.”
(NIV)
-
-
Jesus Christ shed every drop of His blood in
Calvary.
He gave up His ALL for us, not just a little, but all of
Himself. That is how deep His love for man.
-
-
The Lord has not called us to physically die for Him.
But we need to ask ourselves daily, “Am I willing to die,
even little by little, to myself, to my own selfishness, to
my stubbornness, pride and weaknesses – so that God’s love
may grow more and more in me? So that there will be more of
Him and less of me in my life?”
-
-
War or no war, our celebration of Easter will always be
joyful. Not because of us, but because of Him – because of
His unconditional love for us. However, we can make Easter
more meaningful and fruitful for us by opening more of
ourselves to His love, letting it grow in our hearts and
sharing this love with others.
-
- A
Joyous Easter to you all!
