WHAT EASTER MEANS TO KIDS

Welcome to the Genesis Children’s Ministry Chronicles,
otherwise known as, “The G Kidspace*”!!!
-
-
Ask
any of the Genesis children and they will tell you where
they would rather be on a Friday night. At the mall?
Nope! S
tay
home playing couch potato? Nah! It’s TGIF at Gereja
Santa!!! Why? Because they make up this bunch of lovable
youngsters, with ages ranging from 1 – 14, who hang out in a
secluded corner of the Church grounds learning about their
faith while having so much fun with their friends. It is a
real challenge for the volunteer teachers and parents to
tame them at times, but the fact is, they have the makings
of a future Bro. Pete Lapid or even a Bro. Bo Sanchez!

These
kids are very fortunate. Most of them, before they even
receive their First Communion, know more about praising and
worshiping the Lord than we ever did at their age. How did
that happen? Nearly every one of them was born INTO the
Community, for some, as early as the day of their
conception. The Community prayed over their radiant
expectant moms, visited them the day they were born in the
hospitals and celebrated their Baptisms and birthdays. So,
it’s no wonder that some of them are even more familiar with
worship songs initially than with nursery rhymes!

Long
before I even heard about CCD classes in the international
schools, my two children, Christian and John (a.k.a.
Nathan), had their regular dose of practical religious
formation from the Children’s Ministry. These two boys even
ganged up on me to set up a Children’s Ministry Summer Camp,
that got the three of us and their friends occupied the
whole time last summer. I never imagined myself as a
teacher, but I sure do wish the best for my children’s
spiritual upbringing. So somehow, it did not take that much
persuasion from the Head Servant for me to take up the
responsibility of heading the Children’s Ministry this
year. After all, two of about thirty of these kids are my
own children, some are my godchildren, and the rest are
simply lovable and eager children of God.
-
-
A lot
of activities are lined up for the Children’s Ministry this
year and most of these will be focusing on worshiping the
Lord in small and big events. The Genesis kids are all
talented and it’s just a matter of channeling these talents
for glorifying the Lord. It is also about time that the
kids get a feel of what “the older folks are doing upstairs”
during regular Friday prayer meetings. In their own way,
that is. After all, “I can do all things in Him who
strengthens me. (Philippians
4:13)”, is what we teach them. Although I’m not an
authority in parenting or certainly not in teaching, I
believe that the Lord has only just started His work with
the children and the Children’s Ministry is a key instrument
in bringing this to completion.

Easter
Sunday has always been one of the kids’ favorite days after
their birthdays and Christmas. Asked about their thoughts
on Easter, what happened to Jesus on Easter Sunday or the
meaning of Resurrection, here’s what some of the G kids have
to say…

Louise, 10:
(Easter is when we do) hunting of eggs and (it is) the
rising of Jesus from the tomb. |

Christian, 6:
It’s the EGG day? |

Axel, 4:
Easter? I don’t know. |

Carla, 7:
Jesus died and rose on the 3rd day.
Christian:
What? Did he die? |

John (a.k.a. Nathan), 4:
He’s ALIVE! |

Kamille, 8:
(Easter is when we go) collecting eggs. (It is also the
day) Jesus rose from the dead for us. |

CJ, 5:
Easter? Is that about the eggs? |

Arianne, 3:
Uh-huh? |

Isa, 7:
Easter to me means about love, care, help, forgiveness and
the most important is about holiness never ever lost in
the universe. (On Easter Sunday,) Jesus rose from the
dead and went to heaven because God is the Father of Jesus
and God doesn't want to leave Him dead. |

Angelo, 10:
My idea of Easter is the egg-making. (On Easter Sunday,)
Jesus resurrects because He wanted to show that He is God
because God has power over death. |

Gabriel, 6:
Easter is painting and coloring eggs, hiding them and
looking for the eggs and then offering them to Jesus.
Resurrection? Ah, it’s the
1-2-3
days and He’s alive again! |
