- Finally,
ZUBIN PAUL, Bro. Paul and Sis. Maria’s two-month old baby boy,
agreed to pose for a brief photo session in India. Another addition
to the growing number of Genesis babies! Congratulations to Bro.
Paul and Sis. Maria’s new bundle of joy!

- At the
aftermath of the September 11 tragedy in the US, the entire month of
October was filled with tension as the counter strikes in
Afghanistan begun. Despite
the mounting political and religious tension, the Community
fearlessly continued on with its scheduled activities.
As what Sis. Liza Caleda mentioned during Ministry Time in
one of our Prayer Meetings, we are very blessed that we are still
able to continue in our worship and fellowship even if we are in a
predominantly Muslim country and that we should earnestly pray for
our Muslim brothers especially those who are suffering.

- The
First Friday Fr. Alex Susilo Wijoyo celebrated Mass last October 5.
During the homily, Fr. Alex recounted his experience of
having stayed many years in New York, and how an elderly priest
friend of his once gave a different view of death.
- We had
three relevant talks conducted by various talented speakers during
the month. Sis. Leslie Freires gave the first talk last October 12
about the “The Parable of the Talents” (Matthew 25:14-30).
The core message of the teaching is to use productively and
responsibly the abilities, talents, capacities, intelligence and
qualities that God had given us for the service of others and for
the glory of His name.

- The
Community is not witho
 ut its share of talented members. The winners
of the 2001 Genesis Bowling Tournament were also announced last
October 12. Although the actual event was a month ago, the
excitement was still evident during the awarding ceremony.
Congratulations again to the Light Blue Team with its members
Bro. Pete Lapid, Bro. Randy Lapidez, Bro. Raul Loria, Sis. Mary Ann
Lim and Sis. Dhany, for bagging the Overall Team Champion trophy,
followed by the Orange Team (1st Runner Up) and the White
Team (2nd Runner Up). Special thanks to Bro. Larry and
Sis. Joji Escuban for the beautiful trophies, and for Bro. Armand
Sol for designing them. More photos of the awards night can be found

 Several
Genesis members attended the wedding rites of Bro. Alfons and
Sis. Jessica, faithful members of God’s Holy Family Community (KKKA),
sister community of Genesis, on October 14. It was an emotional and
heart-warming ceremony filled with their Community’s love for one
another as brothers and sisters helped in the success of their
wedding day.

- The
second talk was given by Fr. Terry Ponomban about “Pride” last
October 19. Even
priests do experience falling into this temptation of pride but
Jesus said, “Learn from me because I am gentle and humble in
spirit”. Fr. Terry
emphasized that we can use HUMILITY as a weapon against pride,
although it is not an instant, often times elusive, virt
 ue. As such we have to go thru the purifying fire of suffering
and prayer to learn humility.

- Bro.
Fred Manibog gave the talk “Tithing” on Oct 26 about giving the
Lord a portion of our earning. He emphasized the blessings in giving
and it should really be given to the Church and its works.

- There
were several birthday celebrants for the month and on three
occasions some of the celebrants gave everyone their birthday treats
during our regular Friday meetings – Bro. Frank Brosas (October
13), Sis. Babes Oey (October 18) and Sis. Susan Trinidad (October
28). Bro. Frank will
soon be migrating to Australia with his family while Sis. Susan will
be assigned in Manila and will be reunited with her family also very
soon.

- Speaking
of last birthdays in Jakarta, Anjo Aban, the lovely daughter of
Bro.
Den and Sis. Gina Aban also celebrated her 5th year
birthday last October 13. The
whole Aban family will be migrating to Canada by January 2002.

- The
Genesis children have become so much part of the Community that
their participation in its activities is becoming more active.
The upcoming Children’s Mass on November 2 is really
something to look forward to, especially for the very anxious
parents. Sis. Beth
Manibog, Sis. Ira Sol and Sis. Richel Calio have been practicing the
eager children for this milestone.
You never know, the next Bro. Pete Lapid just might be in
this bunch of angels.
