GENESIS ~ AN INSPIRATION
By Loren Sanchez

Just more than a year ago, I was introduced to the GENESIS Catholic Community.  I had no expectations then, not even a thought of how significant its role will be to our life here in Jakarta.  All I know is that GENESIS has helped my husband, Rio (who was still my fiancé then), in strengthening his faith in the Lord through the regular Friday prayer meetings and fellowships, as he sought for God’s guidance and protection during his first year here.  He has seen wondrous acts and had his prayers and concerns answered, especially with the long distance relationship that we had before we got married and started a family in this foreign land.

Little did I know that GENESIS is actually more than just a regular weekly gathering of Filipinos residing here in Jakarta.  It’s actually a group of highly-spirited beliPicture of a Happy Family: The writer (left) with loving husband Rio and cute baby John Arloevers of the Lord Almighty, young and old – singles, husbands & wives, and kids – who have committed to lead lives for the Lord.  They gather regularly to glorify God through songs of praise and worship, inspiring lectures, and sharing of talents and life experiences, with the Spirit of God working upon them.  And I’m glad to have become part of such a community.

Before coming here, I used to work in one of the busiest cities in the Philippines.  And I have to admit that after a tiring and pressure-filled week in the office, my friends and I would often go to shopping malls, movie houses, or even concert venues just to relax and spend a few bucks for entertainment.  There we experience joy and fun.  Unfortunately, I sometimes forget to thank and praise Him for the week that just passed – that despite the trials and difficulties – I was able to overcome them.

Now that I have become active in worshipping the Lord – well, thanks to GENESIS and to my husband, who has been a real inspiration to me – I try my best to always praise and thank Him for all the blessings He has given me and my family – big or small. I thank Him most especially for all the miracles in my life – for giving me  a  very responsible and  loving husband, a supportive and wonderful family back home, and for my dear little angel – my 5-month-old son, John Arlo.

I also feel blessed that I was able to meet special people in the Community who have inspired us one way or another.  One couple worth mentioning is Bro. Armand and Sis. Ira Sol – they’re one of the many families who have shown us genuine kindness, hospitality and generosity.  Another is the Escuban couple – my dear Ninang Joji and Ninong Larry – who have been so generous, kind and supportive since the day we met. And all the wonderful people who have always helped and inspired us (especially our Care Group) – may you continue to be God’s instruments in inspiring others with the way you express your tremendous love for the Lord.

I just pray for the strength and determination to continue in my walk of faith, with my family and the GENESIS Catholic Community beside me.  Amen.

TELL US LIKE IT IS!
Has something wonderful and unique happened in your life lately? Did God answer your prayer in a very unexpected way? Did you, like Isaiah, meet God’s whisper?
Have you felt His powerful hand working in your life recently?
Everyday, people are experiencing God’s mighty Word in their lives and it is a pity that very few know about it. Do you have a story to tell? Some Good News to share?
E-mail us (genesis@catholic.org) or fax us (021-6627384), and tell us about it. That’s right! You don’t have to be a great writer to do this. We can help you write it – just tell us like it is!
Don’t forget to write the subject: “Let Me Tell You A Story”
