HIS Servant
Bro. Pete LapidIS THE DEVIL REAL?
By Bro. Pete Lapid

You bet! He is as real as the noonday sun and the stars and the moon that shine at night. He is real as the lilies and the flowers in the fields and the trees in the mountains and hills. He is real as the birds that fly in the sky and the animals that walk on the earth. He is as real as you and me!
But he does not have a physical body, so we don’t see him as he really is. And so he comes in different “forms, shapes and sizes.” He may come like a “thief in the night” or an “arrow that flies by day.”

He may come like a “roaring lion” or a “weed among the wheat.” Sometimes he changes strategies and appears as a beautiful, sympathetic and innocent-looking someone. Or he may come by way of a difficulty or a problem, thru a temptation or a test.

Is the devil real? You can count on it!

So what do we do when we encounter him? Should we welcome him, play with him or entertain him? Not unless we want to be friends with him and suffer the consequences! Or should we run away and flee and hide? Or put up a fight? If so, are we prepared or equipped to oppose him? Do we have the weapons?

Let us take a look at what Scripture says. As Christians, we should rely on what God says. Didn’t our Lord Jesus Christ also use Scripture when the devil tempted Him in the desert?

James 4:7 - “…resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
2 Timothy 2:19 – “…Let him who confesses the name of the Lord turn away from evil.”
Ephesians 4:27 – “…do not give the devil a foothold.”
1 Peter 5:8-9 - “Be sober and alert because your enemy the devil prowls about like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Stand your ground, firm in your faith…”
Luke 22:40 - “…He (Jesus) told them, ‘Pray that you may not be put to the test’.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 – “…pray without ceasing…”
Ephesians 6:11 – “Put on the whole armor of God to be able to resist the cunning of the devil.”
Colossians 4:2 - “Be steadfast in prayer and even spend the night praying and giving thanks.”
Luke 10:19 - “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy, so that nothing will harm you.”

So, prayers and Scripture are two of the sure ways to resist the devil. But there is yet another effective way - that is to cast him out. Jesus Himself has given us the authority to overpower the enemy.

And it works Brothers & Sisters! Otherwise, why would Jesus give us this power? Whenever I am in a situation where I know that a temptation is coming from the devil or when I recognize that a difficulty is brought about by the evil one, I cast him out and command him to leave in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. At times, I use Scripture. And believe me, the enemy flees and runs away. He cowers in fear on hearing the Name of Jesus!

What did I do? I simply obeyed Jesus and used the authority He gave me. And I know you can do the same. Try it. Win over your temptations and trials. Conquer the enemy, the evil one. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen!
