 SUMMER~ THE G KIDS' WAY

It’s the summer
fever once again. As usual, parents are clamoring for more weekday
activities for their kids. Can’t seem to keep those active and talented
kids locked up in the house the whole week (unless they get sick, of
course). So here’s what’s in store for them this summer.

- Friday nights
are still booked, as we reformatted the ‘classes’ to include arts and
crafts, learning Mass and praise songs, watching Bible story videos,
cracking some puzzles, Getting Ready for Sunday (discussion of the
coming Sunday’s Gospel), and praying for personal/Community intentions
(Ministry Time). The children also have their parts to play every First
Friday Mass as they serve as altar boys/girls, or sing in the G Kids
Choir (their repertoire of songs is being added to weekly). For the
months of June and July, we have two dedicated teachers helping out -
Sis. Pinky Torres for the preschoolers and Sis. Menchie Abawag for the
grade schoolers. The children are very grateful for their teachers’
dedication and involvement in their spiritual growth. Especially for
Sis. Pinky, the kids’ thank you is through a prayer for a gift of life
for her during the Ministry Time.

- But Friday
nights are just too far in between for the kids. So on June 25,
Wednesday, we had a trial run of the preschoolers’ class outside of
Gereja Santa. Right at my own house where a room was converted to a ‘kinderland’.
Some G Kids came over and Sis. Beth Manibog also rounded up the Moms to
do the intercessory prayers downstairs while waiting for their
children. At least for the summer, this is our mobile Children’s
Ministry class - - a perfect excuse for the kids to ‘play-over’ and the
Moms to enjoy extended ‘pot-luck’ lunches. Next stop will be the Sol’s
place.

- We also
started the Dance Workshop for G Kids, aged 6- 10, at the ICAC House in
Lebak Bulus. Mr. Edmund Gaerlan, the dance instructor, is teaching the
girls to dance to the modern beat (Don’t worry boys, the plan for you
will be announced later). On the initial day, they had such a great
time. I was even enjoying just watching them giggle and wiggle for an
hour! The Dance Workshop is actually open to everyone, not just the G
Kids. The kids will surely have great fun spending the summer with new
friends and doing something they enjoy so much. Wait ‘til you see them
perform at the Dance Concert we tentatively set for September 6.

As you might
notice, this summer, the Children’s Ministry’s focus is on honing the
dancing talents of the children. Mid-way thru the summer, we will also
be teaching the G Kids praise and worship dancing. Choreography will be
developed by Sis. Yolanda, who has been doing this for several years now
in her local community. For those of you who have no idea about this
dance, again, just watch out for the Dance Concert at the end of the
summer. You’ll be in for a real treat.

“So when are we
going outdoors?!!!”, I could just hear the kids ask. Saung Nini Resort
in Puncak is once again reserved for us on July 18, 19 and 20. Block
out your calendars on those days and get those tents ready. We are
currently organizing the G Kids Summer Camp. Activities will include
outdoor games, the "Amazing Race", trip to Cibodas Park, Kota Bunga
Theme Park, horseback riding and others. So sign up now, as only 13
rooms are available! God bless you all.
