- “Lord, I’m tired of being the answer to everyone’s prayer.”
I uttered this during one my low moments not too long ago.
What a self-absorbed and presumptuous thing to say. But have
you ever felt that way? Have you ever thought at times that people
around you – family, friends, superiors, colleagues, even total
strangers – demand too much from you that your own needs are not
met?
-
- At
that time, I felt like I was carrying the whole world on my shoulders.
I worked too hard and received too little recognition. I had to cancel
my vacation because of too much work. I was not saving enough money
because I had been too generous to loved ones and strangers alike. My
list of misfortunes was very long.
But then the Lord started to speak to me and asked, have you
ever contemplated that your misfortune (or perceived misfortune) may
turn out to be someone else’s blessing?
-
- Imagine
the incidents that happen to you everyday.
A reservation you cancel on a fully booked flight may mean a
trip home for someone who has to visit a sick loved one. A Rp10,000
bill you drop may buy a meal for a person who just lost his job. A job
you didn’t get may save someone else’s family from losing a home.
A parking space you lost may mean the person in the car in
front of you really needed to go to the bathroom!
-
- This
is how God has always planned it. Nothing happens in vain. No disaster
– big or small - comes to your life without a reason.
Let us be glad that we are part of His plan. Let us be happy to
be God’s servants, even in ways we cannot understand. Rejoice in the
fact that we are and we CAN be the answer to someone’s prayer.
-
- God
calls on us to be His servants. Let us actively heed His call.
-
- “Be
ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit,
like servants who are waiting for their master to come back from a
wedding feast. When he comes and knocks, they will open the door for
him at once”.
Luke 12: 35-36
