THE
FOUR Cs

Every Christmas, my family and I are given the chance to go
back to our home country, the
Philippines.
The school vacation started earlier last year. Because of this, we
were able to go back just in time to attend the simbang gabi
(traditional midnight Mass). The homilies that were given by the
officiating priests were very touching and meaningful. One of the
most memorable homilies was given by Msgr. Emmanuel Sebastian. He
focused on the things that a “good” family should have, which he
called, “The Four Cs.” These four Cs include: Communication,
Celebration, Cooperation, and Commune with God.
-

-
Communication: Some families do not have the time
to just sit down and talk. They do not even have the time to ask
each other how their day went. This is what families should
prevent. We should all have at least a 5 to 15-minute talk with
our families. Talk about how our day went, what plans we have for
the week or even just a simple ‘how are you’ would already put a
smile on our face. This doesn’t only show that you care about the
other person, it is also a chance to know each other more. For
parents to know more about their children, and vice versa, for the
children to know more about their parents. This should also be the
time when we encourage each other to do things that we are afraid
of.
-
-
Celebration: We will all encounter bad and good
times as we live. The bad times are for us to learn from and just
forget. The good times are the ones that we should cherish and
always have in mind. Celebrating it with our families will make
the special event even more special!
-
-
Cooperation: Cooperate with one another. If there
is a problem, talk about it. It is better to “spill” it all out
rather than keeping it all inside and not knowing what to do.
There is a saying, “Do not just listen…UNDERSTAND.”
-
-
Commune with God: Of course, a family cannot be
complete and cannot succeed without our Lord God beside us and in
our hearts. Sundays are the so-called family days, where families
go to Church together to pray. Should we only serve and praise the
Lord on Sundays? No. Just like communication, we should also have
some time for Him. We may be busy most of the time, but without
Him we wouldn’t be who and what we are now. A family that prays
together stays together.
-
- It is
true that we have our friends with us. The question is will they
be there for us forever? Even when trials come between our
friendships? Maybe not. But our families? They will always be
there for us no matter what we do and no matter what happens. We
should all ask ourselves, do we have the four Cs in our families?
Do we practice them? If not, then New Year is the perfect time to
start.

TELL US
LIKE IT IS!
- Has
something wonderful and unique happened in your life lately? Did
God answer your prayer in a very unexpected way? Did you, like
Isaiah, meet God’s whisper?
- Have
you felt His powerful hand working in your life recently?
-
Everyday, people are experiencing God’s mighty Word in their
lives and it is a pity that very few know about it. Do you have
a story to tell? Some Good News to share?
- E-mail
us (genesis@catholic.org)
or fax us (021-6627384), and tell us about it. That’s right! You
don’t have to be a great writer to do this. We can help you
write it – just tell us like it is!
- Don’t
forget to write the subject: “Let Me Tell You A Story”
