GIVE
LOVE, GIVE HOPE THIS NEW YEAR

In my last article, I wished that we would celebrate this
Christmas filled with its true spirit – the giving of
extra-special love to our parents, brothers, sisters and their
families. I prayed, “May not the material things matter, Lord,
but may You grant us a more meaningful Christmas…one which will
touch their hearts by expressing sincere words and actions which
we so often take for granted”. Maybe the physical giving of gifts
hinders us from really sitting down and sincerely asking them how
they were. Maybe because we did not want to interfere with their
real problems or probably we find time, as always an excuse - with
so many things to do with very little time. In previous years I
wondered, did we really go home to spend time with our loved ones
or to attend to so many other things?

Our Christmas 2002 and New Year 2003 was totally different
this time, thanks to our Lord who granted our hearts’ desire. He
paved the way for us to spend quality time with our loved ones,
appreciating them for their sacrifices and care for us from the
time we could remember. I saw my Mom with tears of joy after
hearing the praises of her many children, who have kept these
encouraging words unsaid for so many years. Everyone just felt
loved and appreciated even in the smallest things they did. Yes,
we gave gifts, but more importantly, we gave words to uplift them
and give hope in spite of the problems they may have. We thank the
Lord for making us His instruments in opening up again
communication lines that have long been clogged up in our family.

Indeed, the Lord is full of love and mercy. He lets us
experience extra special holidays, because we asked for them in
prayers. As it is written in Philippians 4:4-7, “Rejoice in the
Lord always. I say it again: rejoice and may everyone experience
your gentle and understanding heart... In everything resort to
prayer and supplication… then the peace of God… will keep your
hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.” It was prayer that made the
difference.

Year after year, months, days just come and go, but the
Love of the Lord will remain forever. Give love, give
encouragement…it pleases not only the person, it also gives
strength to the soul. This New Year, may we try to be more
appreciative of God’s great blessings to us, not just the material
things but more so the people He has blessed us with. God bless.

I was recently blessed to get a job that I have been trying
so hard to get. Susanna and I were praying so much that I would be
successful in getting the job. And I know that you were praying
for me, too…I feel sure that God heard our prayers and as a result
blessed me with the job I needed. I want to thank you all so much
for your prayers…God bless.

I would like to thank you all for your prayer so that I can
have another semester here in
Jakarta to
finish my studies. Another semester also meant that I could serve
God longer with all of you here. I am really happy for this. May
the merciful God bless us all.
