- “WILL THERE
BE WAR?” is the question that is paramount in most of our minds at
this time. What with the threat
of war in Iraq that we hear and see in the news and discussed all
around us! Such an incongruous question to be asked in February,
the “Month of Love,” we might say. A question seemingly so out of
place in this GNB issue when we talk about Loving God and Loving
Neighbor.
Speculations on the answer to this question will never end until
such time that the whole war issue is cleared up. In the meantime,
we may feel powerless when we think that we do not have any direct
say in the resolution of this issue. But then, maybe not that
powerless… Because we can have a say! A very powerful voice, in
fact. The Voice of Prayer. To no less than our Lord Jesus, the
Prince of Peace.
Brothers and sisters, the following is a beautiful Prayer for
Peace that is being shared around through e-mails. May this plea
become part of our regular prayers, especially during this time of
uncertainties. With faith, let’s all hope that our quest for the
answer will be rewarded with a resounding “PEACE CONTINUES TO
REIGN!”
PRAYER
FOR PEACE
Lord Jesus, today we offer ourselves to You in faith, hope and
love. We gather once again to pray for peace for ourselves and our
neighbors, our country and for the whole world. The whole human
race now feels threatened by the onslaught of new and
disconcerting conflicts and a possible world war. Peace in the
world is endangered. And so we lift our hearts once again to
implore You, "Come, Prince of Peace!"
We believe in Your power to both heal and save. With Your grace,
you can create openings for peace where only obstacles and
closures are apparent. Send forth Your Spirit to strengthen and
enlarge the solidarity of the entire human family in spite of our
endless history of division and conflict. We seek Your
forgiveness, and implore the courage to forgive those who have
trespassed against us. We beg for justice, for a right ordering of
relations within and among nations and peoples. We pray for
freedom, especially for the religious freedom that is a basic
human and civic right of every individual. We come to You to ask
that souls be freed from hatred and be open to mutual pardon, to
constructive solidarity and to peace. May Your Spirit guide the
minds and hearts of our world leaders so that the way of justice
and peace will prevail.
Almighty Father, Creator of the world, You established the order
which governs all the ages. Hear our prayer and give us peace in
our time that we may rejoice in Your mercy and praise You without
end. We ask this in the Name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.
