- GREETINGS
FROM CANADA!
- Some
old Genesis members gathered for a reunion in Ontario, Canada, in time
for the visit of the Aban Family (who is also migrating there by the
end of this year!)

for their lunch)

- Au
gust was
a month of milestones for Genesis. Several members celebrated their
birthdays this month, including our head servant, Bro. Pete Lapid,
last August 1, who was given a “surprise” birthday celebration in
Jl. Bacang. His birthday was graced by the presence of Genesis
members, Fr. Binzler, our Parish priest and Spiritual Director, as
well as friends from the Philippine Embassy, Zaldy Patron and Marivic
Dimaculangan. The greater grace was when each one of us present took
turns praying over Bro. Pete and asked God’s abundant blessings on
him – our way of thanking God for his total commitment to serve Him
through the Genesis Community.
-
- The Lord
has blessed Genesis with other celebrations of thanksgiving for His
servants: the 30th anniversary of Fr. Binzler’s
ordination as a priest which we celebrated after the First Friday Mass
last August 3 and Fr. Veeger’s 76th birthday on Aug.16
which we commemorated a day earlier during our regular 3rd
Wednesday Mass at Jl. Bacang, Both Fr. Binzler and Fr. Veeger have
fully dedicated themselves to God and have served Indonesian and
expatriate communities. Fr. Binzler has been supportive of all the
Genesis activities and allows us to invite other priests so that they,
too, can nourish us.
-
Fr. Veeger
is the ever ready priest who never said no to our request for
confessions, for Holy Mass, for teachings during our Friday Prayer
Worship and for articles in the Good News Bulletin. As he celebrated
his 76th birthday, he said that it is not these services
nor the long years that matter but how good we are in the eyes of God,
how attuned we are to His will, how obedient we are to His laws.
Last August 24, Fr. Veeger gave a talk on the Sacrament of
Marriage to the members of the Community.
He not only refreshed couples on the teachings of the Catholic
Church on this Sacrament, but also discussed recent developments and
relevant applications in the relationship between husbands and
wives.

The
highlight for the month, as well as a major milestone for the
Community, was the Dedication Day, celebrated last August 10.
The Community formally welcomed our ECLS (Empowere d Christian
Living Seminar) participants who have decided to become members of
Genesis Catholic Community. In
a candlelight ceremony, the new members, mostly Indonesian brothers
and sisters, took their oath along with the old members, by reading
out “The Covenant”. Old
members also renewed their
-
Commitment
to live in fullness of Christ through the community. Then the
Discussion group Leaders put on the Genesis pins to their respective
ECLS participants while the rest of the Community greeted the new
membe rs, who were given simple tokens of this very memorable event.
Even the old members mentioned that this is so far the most
festive Dedication Day. Once again, to the new Genesis members, we
would like to say “ WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!!!”
-
- And of
course, August is always a milestone month for Indonesia. In
celebration of Indonesia’s Independence Day last August 17, Genesis
called off its Prayer Meeting for that
Friday. Some members of the
Community spent the long weekend at Wisma Anthony in Carita beach.
(This resort is memorable as it was here where Genesis members first
made their commitments in 1995 to live as a covenanted community.)
This weekend’s fellowship was marked with lots of food, fun,
laughter and enriching sharings especially during the Lord’s Day
celebration. There were sharings on how God revealed anew through the
beautiful sea before us the immensity of His love. God’s presence
was experienced more deeply through the members’ fellowship and
caring for one another. How true are the words of the Psalmist “ I
am sure I will see the good ness of the Lord in the land of the
living.” (Psalm 27:13)
-
- The Music
Ministry has been blessed with new voices this month, too.
Some ECLS participants started joining the Choir long before
Dedication Day. They have
been committing themselves to the regular practices for the 5:30p.m.
Sunday Masses in Atma Jaya. Other
interested members who wish to share their singing talent can approach
Bro. Bong Calio, our Music Ministry Head.

We
are glad to see new faces in the Community, but we will also miss some
familiar and dear faces moving out of Jakarta.
A family has just finished their own milestone here in Jakarta
and will be moving to Canada. We wish God’s abundant blessings,
guidance and protection on Bro. Jun, Sis. Lulu and AB Manzano, who are
migrating to Calgary, Canada in September.
They will be surely missed by the Community, especially by
their Care Group. They
will be reuniting with Bro. Jovie and Sis. Regi Joaquin’s family in
Calgary (as they will be next door neighbors there), and hopefully
start a Genesis chapter in Canada.
