Our BestFriend's Wedding - NELIA and LITOOUR BESTFRIEND’S WEDDING
Everybody’s friend, Nelia Bautista, (third from left) said her “Yes, I do…” to her boyfriend now husband, Lito Dula on July 16, 2001. We wish both Nelia and Lito God’s abundant blessings now and always.
Left to right: Aunt Belle, Sis. Liza Caleda, the newlyweds Mr. & Mrs. Lito Dula, Benjamin & Kara Caleda.

September 2001 will forever be remembered as the September like no other.  Where were you when the jetliners hit the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon?  Even when the whole world was in a very tense stand still, the month of September was not without its share of events for the Community – great talks, powerful worships, vigorous sports tournament.  All these activities are not only spiritual nourishments during these hard times, but a bonding of Community members, too.  So what kept the Community busy lately?

We always start the month right with our regular First Friday Mass at Gereja Santa Maria, as celebrated by Fr. Veeger.  The 3rd Wednesday Mass in Jl. Bacang was celebrated by Fr. Binzler. For those who want to have confessions, Fr. Binzler Sis. Laniand Fr. Veeger arrive half-an-hour before the Mass starts.

For the rest of the month, the Community has been blessed with enlightening talks from very good speakers.  Last September 14, Sis. Lani Samson gave the talk on “How to Win over Temptation” which was very relevant for all of us.  The speaker distinguished between temptation and sin, and gave practical advise on how to deal with temptations in our daily lives.  Although oftentimes difficult to deal with, it is still comforting to know that God only allows us to face those temptations we can handle and He gives us a way out.
 Bro. Omy
The Community was truly privileged to have Bro. Omy Romero as our speaker last September 21.  Bro. Omy is a missionary from the Philippines, whose family was with the Community for two years (1996- 1998), and was instrumental in forming Genesis into a covenanted community as we know it today.  He gave a brief but powerful talk on “Complacency” in our spiritual life being more threatening than the terrorism at the World Trade Center.  He reminded all members of the danger of having the “minimum compliance” or “just so I don’t go to hell” attitude in our spiritual life as Christians. He also mentioned that Community members can help remind each other to participate more actively in Community activities to help combat complacency.  We very much appreciated this impartation by Bro. Omy and it makes us look forward to his next visit to Jakarta.

Msgr. RenzoAnd just before the month ended, we were also blessed by another relevant talk on Catholic Doctrine delivered by no other than the Papal Nuncio to Indonesia, His Excellency Msgr. Renzo Fratini.  The talk was focused on the Beatitudes and its application to our daily life.  Most relevant was Msgr. Renzo’s interpretation of the Beatitudes in the light of the recent tragedy in the US and the threat to world peace and he emphasized that the Catholic Church’s version of justice is not further killing especially of innocent lives.

Prayer before the gamesDespite everyone’s hectic schedule, the Annual Genesis Bowling Tournament pushed thru last September 23 at Ancol Bowling Center.  Adults and kids alike truly enjoyed the whole day event.  Even the best bowling players were challenged by the fun games - Perdigana, 9-Pin, Split and Partner Bowling, which gave the amateurs a bit of an advantage.   On the sports day itself, Jericho Tupas, the eldest son of BroJericho celebrates his 5th bday. Joe and Sis. Lestari, celebrated his own birthday. Members gathered around him to sing a birthday song and blew his own cake. For Bro. Alfred Torres and those who helped him, lots of thanks for organizing the event and making the fun possible. Exciting photos during the games are found here. Watch out for the next issue of Good News Bulletin for announcement of the tournament winners.

Worth noticing this month are the new PMLs (Prayer Meeting Leaders) that have led our Friday meetings like Bro. Dolreich Fernandes and Bro. Larry Escuban.  And of course, our worship meetings are also led by very inspiring Worship Leaders likJason Tupase Bro. Fred Manibog and Bro. Percy Cabauatan. Truly the Community is blessed with devoted servants who take on these tasks sometimes at very short notices.

And on the last day of September, cute baby Jason Tupas, the second son of Bro. Joe and Sis. Lestari, was baptized at the Vatican embassy chapel. An enticing lunch followed with the double celebration of Jericho and Jason.
