GENESIS HAPPENINGS

Dramatic but expected changes, as well as the gentle and renewing kind of transformation took place in the Community during the month of June 2001.    

 

Way To Go, Mommy Jane! 

One of the most awaited events every year in Genesis is Lola Jane Dizon’s birthday.  It’s always a big joyful celebration for Genesis and friends.  This year, no less than eight priests, led by our expatriate parish priest Fr. Sigfried Binzler, SJ, concelebrated the thanksgiving Mass at Jl. Bacang on June 9, 2001 for the advanced celebration of Mommy Jane’s 93^rd birthday (her actual birthday is June 12).  Our beloved Fr. Noel Villafuerte of Don Bosco rendered his traditional gift of song to Lola Jane after his homily.  His song “I Will be Here” aptly expresses Mommy Jane’s loving presence to all.  Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous lunch served as well as the lively entertainment and honoring which followed.  Again, a blessed birthday to you, Lola! 

 

Another Milestone for the Philippines! 

Just like Mommy Jane, Filipinos working in Jakarta celebrated on June 9, 2001 the 103^rd anniversary of the Independence Day of The Republic of the Philippines which falls on June 12.   The Genesis Catholic Community, as one of the Filipino organizations in Indonesia, actively supported the Independence Day events.  Several of our brothers and sisters in the Community dressed to the nines attended the dinner celebration at the Shangri-La Jakarta.   On Independence Day itself, the Genesis Choir sang at the Holy Mass celebrated in Filipino at the grounds of the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta. To our beloved country, Mabuhay!

 

Till We Meet Again! 

This month also turned happy times together into lovely memories as three of the Community’s most committed servants left Indonesia for good.  After eight years in Jakarta, our dear Sis. Nelia Bautista went home to the Philippines on June 7, 2001 for another stage of her life.  Our beloved Joaquin Family (Bro. Jovie, Sis. Regi, Jorald and Jen-jen)  also left on June 15, 2001 to start a new life in Canada, after more than a decade in Jakarta.  A number of tearful despedida parties preceded their departure, each one a testimony to how much loved and how missed they will be.  To you all, God bless and keep the fire of God’s love burning in your hearts!

 

Fill Us Holy Spirit!

The Empowered Christian Living Series (ECLS) continued at the hall of Gereja Santa Maria every Friday, after the First Friday Mass on June 1, 2001 which was celebrated by Fr. Veeger, MSC.  On June 8, our eloquent Bro. Desmond D’Souza spoke about “The Christian View of Life.” The following Friday, the inimitable Sis. Liza Caleda  discussed “Loving God and Loving Our Neighbors.”  These talks, together with the Confession and Holy Mass officiated by Fr. Anton Prasetio, on Wednesday, June 20 at Jl. Bacang, were all in preparation for the Baptism in the Holy Spirt on June 22, 2001, one of the highlights of the ECLS.  Our Head Servant, Bro. Pete, gave the talk on “New Life and Baptism in the Holy Spirit” on June 22 and brought to mind the first Christian Pentecost.  He then led us all into a moving worship invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit. Then with the praying over and laying of the hands on the ECLS participants, the gentle presence of the Holy Spirit filled the hall and everyone experienced a renewed spirit.  A very inspired Bro. Fred Manibog delivered a rousing presentation on “Prayer and Scripture,”  two of the necessary ingredients for a full relationship with God, on the last Friday of the month.  Hold on for more as the ECLS continues!

Change is welcomed with open hearts especially if it is brought by cute little bearers.  Genesis has again added to its number two darling angels, with the birth of Baby Jason, to doting parents Sis. Lestari and Bro. Joe Tupas on June 1, 2001, and the lovely Baby of Sis. Marlyn and Bro. Dolreich Fernandes on June 20.  To the new Genesis babies, may you grow in the fullness of the love of your family, the Community and Christ!
