STORY
-

- In
John 15:15 Jesus called His disciples friends. He said, “I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I
have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father
I have made known to you.”
-
- The
above verse made me think and wonder. Why did Jesus call His disciples
friends instead of something else? Is my definition of friend the same as that of Jesus? Is my understanding and use of the
word friend the same as
Jesus?
-
- And
I ask myself these questions: Am I a friend of Jesus? Is Jesus my
friend? How much do I really know about His ‘business’?
-
- We
all have our own circle of friends. For some even circles of friends. People whom we like to go out with, to spend
time with. People who may not be among our family members and
relatives and yet who we consider close to us. Those who are always
there for us. Ready to help us when we need help. Ready to listen to
us when we need to be listened to. Available for us when we want to
talk. Always there for us. But do we sometimes ask ourselves: Are we
the same to them? Are we always available to them when they need us to
help, to listen, to talk with? How much of their ‘business’ do we
really know about?
-
- Jesus
tells us in verses 14 & 17 of St. John what the foundation of our
relationships should be when He said, “You
are My friends if you do what I command…This is My command: Love one
another.” Our relationships should be founded on God’s love,
His love.
-
- This month two of our friends, Bro.
Jovie & Sis. Regi Joaquin with their two children Jorald and
Jen-Jen, left us to migrate to another country. We will surely miss
them for they have served the Lord well through the Community. The
many years we spent with them in Jakarta however will not go to waste.
For throughout those years the relationship was nourished by the same
love with which Jesus loves us. And we believe that it will bear
fruit, fruit that will last, in our lives.
-
- Brothers
& Sisters, I have put many questions into your minds. And I hope
that they will lead you to reflect and think about your own
relationships - with your family, with your relatives, with your
friends, and most especially with the Lord. What is the basis or
motive for all these relationships? Is it love or is it something
else?
-
- I
pray that your relationship and your love for our Lord Jesus Christ
will deepen since your relationship with other people is but a mere
reflection of your relationship with Him.
